Regular meeting Geneva Township Trustees, May 10th, 2006.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mills at 7:30 p.m. Those present were Mr. Mills, Mr. Pruden, Mr. Russell and Fiscal Officer Long. On a motion by Mr. Russell, seconded by Mr. Pruden unanimously approved the minutes from the previous meeting as read. Mr. Pruden made a motion, Mr. Russell seconded the payment of bills in the amount of $20,848.10 covered by warrant number 11014-11043.

Mr. Schupska gave the road dept. report. He indicated the Wheeler Creek Rd. work continues on the replacement of the road base. We recently had to get a new starter for the 1997 truck, the Austin Rd. ditching project has been completed. We have been cold patching a number of township roads as well as roadside grass cutting. We picked up a number of tires over the past couple of weeks, the 2000 truck has had brake problems, presently is at Dalin Truck.

Maple Ave. ditch was cleaned, that particular area may be a issue with the health dept., they will investigate. We made a catch basin for a drainage area. The backhoe tires need to be patched, they will be taken to Dale’s Truck Stop for that work. We need more stone, the trustees indicated to go ahead and order the stone as needed.

Mr. Russell reported that Ashtabula County has awarded a contract for the Environmental Study for the Addison Rd. Project. Mr. Russell made a motion to hire Fred Hurst and Denny Crawford as part time workers at a rate of $10.00 per hour. The motion was seconded by Mr. Pruden and unanimously approved.

Mr. Schupska reported the area at the corner of the township property is being prepared for a flower bed in the very near future.

Mr. Mills talked to County Engineer Martin on Wheeler Creek Rd. paving. A speed study on N. Myers Rd. from Route 20 to Maple Ave. is being conducted by the county. It was indicated to Mr. Pruden that speed limit in that area may be able to be reduced.  Several area ditches and catch basins needed to be cleaned with the use of the city’s sewer jet. There  were lights out at E. Maple and N. Myers and they have been replaced.

Mr. Pruden indicated he had reported the leaning electrical poles at 3340 N. Myers plus 2 other poles and that information has been passed on to First Energy representatives.

Mr. Cerjan gave the zoning dept. report. He indicated that 2 renewals on permits issued a couple years ago, he renewed them without a fee. Cars are still on the Martha Ave. property. The cars at the overpass on Route 20 are being moved, but very slowly. Mr. Cerjan had checked with Mr. Cumpston on the drainage problem on Padanarum Rd., he indicated 2 property owners should get together to try and resolve the problem. One of the problems in that area is there’s only a  6 inch drop from the front to the back of the property. Junk cars on North Ave. area will be looked into. Mr. Cerjan will try to contact the owner.

On a motion by Mr. Pruden, a second by Mr. Russell the renewal levy for the 1.49 mil fire levy will be placed on the November Ballot. It was unanimously approved.

The vote for the OPWC Integrated Committee representative is due, Mr. Pruden indicated we should talk to Mr. Pasqualone on who we should vote for. There was a shore erosion meeting, Mr. Lou Layman will be contacted on that meeting. Mr. Pruden discussed a number of possibilities in respect to the Community Block Grant.

The Annual Cemetery Board Meeting was held at Geneva City Council Chambers on May 8th, 2006. Mr. Pruden and Mr. Mills indicated the meeting went well.

A reminder the Spring Cleanup is May 20th at Geneva Landfill. A member of the audience indicated that there was a problem with drainage on Myers Rd., we will request the county to take care of it.
