Geneva Township regular meeting, Nov. 9th, 2011.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mills at 7:30 pm. Those present were Mr. Mills, Mr. Pruden, Mr. Russell, Fiscal Officer Long and Zoning Inspector Cerjan. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Pruden, seconded by Mr. Russell. Bills in the amount of $49.530.20 covered by warrant numbers 15267-15339 were approved on a motion by Mr. Russell, seconded by Mr. Pruden and unanimously approved.

Mr. Schupska gave the Road Dept. report. He indicated they have been working on the North Ave. crossovers that are being installed in preparation for the paving. Also a water problem on Martha Ave. has been addressed. The debris in the creek is blocking the flow of water down the creek. We need permission from the owner to remove the debris. Drains across Rt. 20, Driveway approaches have been fixed and ready for paving. We received a call on Addison Rd. and Spencer Circle. The property on Addison is lower than the road and the property itself needs to be fixed to solve the problem. We replaced the stop sign on E. Maple and Austin.

The Austin Road project has been resolved with new drain pipe. All of the drainage is being replaced. A gas line had to be moved and Dominion will move that line. A catch basin had to be lowered and the County will do the ditching. We changed the 12 inch line to 16 inch line and that has helped the drainage. A number of other Township signs have come up missing and they will be replaced. Our equipment repairs, getting ready for the winter are being done. Property owners on Martha Ave. won’t let our Road Crew back to the creek

We are doing more repairs in house with our new Road Worker, Brian Henry. The Trustees will look into the purchase of ice grits for $7.00 a ton to mix in with the salt. They have ordered a couple of loads to try, also there are 4 trees that need to be removed.

Chief Starkey gave the Fire Dept. report. He thanked the Citizens for passing the Fire Levy renewal on Tuesday. The Fire Levy passed in all precincts within the Township. The new truck from Madison is in service. It is located at Maplewood at the temporary Fire Station there. There are a number of units that have been replaced. The new 100 foot aerial truck is being repaired at Truckmen. The new ladder truck will be put in to service in the next few weeks. There is a great deal going on within the Fire Dept.

We have not heard from American Scrap since sending a letter. We are still waiting for a letter from them as to what they exactly are doing. The Vo-ed kids will train at the training center.

Ron Cerjan gave the Zoning Dept. report. He indicated that one present Lake Rd. permit was issued for a new home. Grant dollars to take down houses is available, the present grant has not been completed yet. A letter from the Prosecutor’s Office in respect to the Whims property, after review we will forward the letter to Whims as to the final disposition.

On a motion by Mr. Russell, seconded by Mr. Pruden the Resolution 2011-07 were approved. Roll call: Mr. Mills – yes, Mr. Pruden – yes, Mr. Russell – yes.

A motion to give the road maintained to Harpersfield Township was made on a motion by Mr. Pruden, seconded by Mr. Mills and unanimously approved. The NAD replacement levy passed, also the labor contract is settled. The POD Project is moving forward. The Cemetery levy was defeated, more changes could be forthcoming.

The Recycling Center is losing money and meetings are taking place to find solutions. As an example brush needs to be ground twice to be reusable. Tires will continue to be picked up around the Township.
